At the Career Fair 2024, held on July 31 at the Sport Complex in Betio, high school students from Tarawa explored diverse career pathways offered by government ministries. Organized by MWYSSA and supported by UNICEF, the event featured the Ministry of Fisheries and other ministries. companies and stakeholders, all committed to shaping the future of students. The Ministry of Fisheries expressed gratitude to the organizers and UNICEF for making this event possible. The fair provided an invaluable opportunity for students to discover careers suited to their studies and interests. The presence of the Office of New Zealand and Australia added an international dimension, making this event a pivotal moment for students to envision their futures in public service.
Kiribati participated in the 29th session of the Internal Seabed Authority held from 29 July to 2nd August 2024 in the city of Kingston, Jamaica. The message we brought to this meeting is simple; As one of the Small Islands Developing States, the people of Kiribati strongly believe that we need the ocean for our prosperity but yes, we must also take care of it, because we are the ocean. We acknowledge Ambassador Teburoro Tiito and his team, from the Kiribati Permanent Mission to the United Nations, for the excellent collaboration with the MFMRD team from capital Tarawa, representing the voices of the Kiribati people in this forum.

Kiribati recognizes the importance of robust compliance measures in preserving the health and productivity of our marine ecosystems. Through this workshop, our officers are gaining invaluable insights and forging essential collaborations that will enhance their effectiveness in the field.
We extend our gratitude to the PNA and the organizers for their excellent coordination of this vital training event. The knowledge and skills gained from this workshop will play a crucial role in ensuring that Kiribati continues to lead in sustainable fisheries management, protecting our precious oceanic resources for generations to come.

A group of senior officials and thinkers from the Pacific get together in Suva, Fiji, to co-design a new and hopefully a game changing program valued around USD100 Million that was generously committed from the Bezos Earth Fund. The two main focus of this new program are 100% ocean management and food systems. SPC is leading this co-designing process and was supported by other regional organizations. Secretaries for MELAD Ms Saitofi Miika and MFMRD Mr Riibeta Abeta represented the voices of Kiribati in this meeting. We acknowledge Pacific-Community-SPC and the organizers for the excellent organization and convening of the meeting.
